What computer is best for my computer illiterate parents?
For truly computer illiterate parents that primary consume rather than create, I always recommend an iPad. If you insist on a physical keyboard, an iPad Pro. If they “already know how to use Windows,” they aren’t really computer illiterate. It’s not clear why they might need a CD drive. If they want to consume media, the streaming options are pretty comprehensive these days. If they insist on listening to CDs, they might prefer the superior sound of a home stereo.
If they have old software they insist on using, then just get any old Windows PC. But then you’re back to having to manage using Windows and all that joy.
The new Windows 10 convertible laptops in tablet mode seem to be nice, but they still maintain a lot of the legacy Windows strangeness under the hood if you run any applications outside of the “Metro” model, including Office.
